Robin's Story

Robin Gelfenbien kicked off her career behind the windshield of the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. A bunderful job that also saved her life.

After being horribly bullied by a group of 60 guys in college, she creatively beat out 990 people to land one of 10 Hotdogger positions. All before she pulled off a huge PR stunt that made her one of the most notorious Wienermobile drivers of all time.

Today, she is a storyteller and speaker whose stories have been featured on PBS, The Moth, RISK!, Mortified, among others. Robin has also given talks at New York Social Media Week, NYU, She’s the First and more.

Robin is the Creator/Host of the storytelling series, “Yum’s the Word,” that features her homemade ice cream cakes. The show has been hailed by the New York Times and Time Out New York as a Critic’s Pick. Guests have included Tim Gunn, Aasif Mandvi, Joy Behar and other celebrities.

Gelfenbien is beyond endearing. She’s fearless.

When planning the NBCOT’s 2019 Annual Occupational Therapy State Regulatory Leadership Forum, we wanted the theme to be centered on how regulators could use storytelling as a communications tool to more effectively communicate regulatory issues.

Come go time, Robin delivered. She did her homework in preparation for her presentation by interviewing state regulators from around the country; she was all in.

Her delivery was dynamic, engaging and entertaining and her message was fresh and thought-provoking.

We were very pleased with her contribution and would recommend her to others interested in learning how to most effectively tell their stories.

The students really engage with Robin. She’s really good at taking serious, important and helpful information, but making it fun, relatable and enjoyable.
